David Nelson rejoined Legg Mason in 1998 and is manager of Legg Mason American Leading Companies Trust. He has over 26 years of experience as an Investment Analyst, Director of Research, and Portfolio Manager. Previously, David was Director of Equity Research at Investment Counselors of Maryland in 1989, and started managing portfolios in late 1990. From 1982 to 1989, David was with Legg Mason as Senior Vice President and Director of Research. Prior to Legg Mason, he spent six years as Director of Quantitative Research at Burns Pauli and Company. David received his undergraduate degree at Wesleyan in 1969 and his M.B.A. from Washington University in 1976. Before graduate school, David was a teacher and served in the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and past President of the Baltimore Security Analysts Society.
